The Ultimate Organic Skincare Guide for Teens & Tweens

Finding the best skincare routine for teens and tweens can be overwhelming and, honestly, super confusing. Not only are teens and tweens dealing with multiple changes in their skin for the first time—changes like blackheads, pimples, acne, dry patches and excess oil—but they’re also exposed to the pressure of social media to always be Insta-worthy and put their best face forward.

Today, the influence of social media and the push for teens and tweens to look picture-perfect has many young females (and males) spending hours, and obscene amounts of money, in stores like Mecca and Sephora buying products that are wayyy too advanced and intense for their young skin—all because it's gone viral on TikTok!

Skincare routines for teens and tweens should be simple—they don’t need multiple steps or products with highly active ingredients. To begin, a skincare routine for teens should include a cleanser, toner and moisturiser, and be gentle, natural ingredient-based products. Once the basics are sorted, other products like masks and scrubs can be introduced to tackle specific skin concerns.

So, what do we recommend at OmMade as the best skincare routine for teens and tweens? Check out our suggestions below.

TEEN-FRIENDLY ORGANIC SKINCARE ROUTINE

At OmMade, our products are not only made with 100% natural and organic ingredients, but they’re also certified palm oil-free and vegan-friendly—reflecting our commitment to quality and sustainability. If you’re looking for a teen-friendly, organic skincare routine, a great place to start is our Clear Skin Face Pack, perfect for those with normal to oily skin or who are prone to acne.

CLEAR SKIN FACE PACK

Consisting of five products—Facial Cleansing Oil, Konjac Cleansing Sponge, Chamomile Toner, Hemp Seed Face Serum and the Adzuki Face Mask & Scrub—the Clear Skin Face Pack is for those prone to acne or those with normal to oily skin, and is the perfect skincare routine for teens and tweens and those starting on their skincare journey (these products can also be purchased individually).

We’re all about keeping skincare routines simple, so we recommend following our suggested daily routine below to start and then incorporating the Mask & Scrub only once the basics have been used consistently and the skin is calm and settled. Overwhelming the skin with too many products at once can cause a reaction in your teen’s skin and make it difficult to know which product is the culprit, so we suggest a gradual introduction.

STEP 1: CLEANSE - FACIAL CLEANSING OIL

Our Facial Cleansing Oil is suitable for all skin types (even oily skin!), replenishes dry, damaged skin and is an ideal gentle acne treatment for sensitive teen skin. It may seem odd to cleanse oily skin with an oil-based cleanser, but it’s an effective method based on the concept that ‘like cures like’, which is the foundation of homeopathy.

Made with lavender, which has soothing properties, geranium, which balances oil production, and neem oil, which is rich in vitamin E and is antiviral, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, makes our Facial Cleansing Oil a great natural cleanser for teen skin.

To use, gently massage 1-2 pumps into dry skin for at least a minute, then use a warm, gentle face cloth to wipe clean, removing any oil residue or makeup. Can use morning and night.

STEP 2: SECOND CLEANSE - KONJAC CLEANSING SPONGE

The Konjac Cleansing Sponge is fully biodegradable and made from 100% pure konjac fibres. The purpose of the sponge after cleansing is that it gently exfoliates the skin, kills bacteria, balances pH levels and naturally moistures, making it an excellent tool for sensitive skin and to include in a skincare routine for teens and tweens.

To use, soak the sponge in warm water until it’s completely soft and has expanded and gently massage it into the skin (can be used with or without a cleanser). After use, rinse the sponge with clean water and squeeze out the excess water to minimise damage to the delicate fibres (can be used morning and night).

When the sponge begins to break down, usually after 2-3 months, you can use it in your home compost or add it to the garden or pot plants to help hold moisture in the soil—a win-win for your skin and the planet!

STEP 3: TONE - CHAMOMILE TONER

Following your first and second cleanser, our Chamomile Toner will help to soothe and calm the skin. Suitable for all skin types, this toner has no alcohol, which can cause the skin to dry, but instead is made with sandalwood and geranium essential oil, which provides nourishing hydration, reduces pores, boosts collagen and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.

The key ingredient in this toner is chamomile, which, besides its calming properties, contains natural antihistamine compounds making it a fantastic product for inflamed, irritated, sensitive and acne-prone skin.

To use this favourite gentle acne treatment for sensitive teen skin, simply spritz the face post-cleansing morning and night. It’s also one of our go-to's for sun-kissed skin, as it will help to refresh, soothe and calm redness.

STEP 4: MOISTURISE - HEMP SEED FACE SERUM

Last but in no way least, the final product that should be part of a basic skincare routine for teens (additional products suggested below) is our Hemp Seed Face Serum. Created for all skin types, this serum has a unique formulation of oils that provide hydration without clogging the pores. See below.

  • Organic Hemp Seed Oil: Delivers essential nutrients and fatty acids and reduces pore size.
  • Red Raspberry Seed Oil: Rich source of vitamin E, offering antioxidants and UVA/UVB benefits.
  • Kakadu Plum Seed Oil: Known to be the world’s richest source of vitamin C, it helps to brighten the skin.
  • Carrot Seed Oil: With natural SPF properties, it helps to rejuvenate the skin.
  • Rose Geranium Essential Oil: Balances oil production and provides antiseptic properties, making it ideal for sensitive or acne-prone teen skin.

Because this formula is super concentrated, a little goes a long way, so distribute a few drops between your hands and gently pat into the skin.

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTED PRODUCTS FOR SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR TEENS

As mentioned, once teens and tweens have a consistent basic skincare routine sorted, additional products can be added to target specific skincare concerns. The last product in our Clear Skin Face Pack is the Adzuki Face Mask & Scrub, which should be included in a skincare routine for teens 2-3 times per week and used after cleansing but before toner and moisturiser.

Made with adzuki beans, kaolin clay, brown rice and aloe vera, the mask & scrub can be used on all skin types. After cleansing, mix one teaspoon of the Adzuki Face Mask & Scrub with water, honey, milk, green tea or even yoghurt to create a paste-like consistency. Gently massage it into the skin, leaving it on anywhere between 5-30 minutes before rinsing with warm water. See the key benefits below of our Adzuki Face Mask & Scrub.

  • Adzuki beans: Gently exfoliates by removing dead skin cells and leaves the skin brighter.
  • Kaolin clay and brown rice: Purifies and smooths the skin.
  • Chickpea flour: Helps to control oil production and targets acne.
  • Aloe vera and kelp extract: Hydrates, soothes and calms the skin.
  • Frankincense oil: Fights acne and supports youthful skin.

Establishing a simple and effective skincare routine for teens and tweens is crucial, considering the extensive changes their skin experiences. The pressure from social media often leads to the use of advanced and intense products that may not be suitable for young skin, and instead, teens should begin with a basic skincare routine using more natural-based products. At OmMade, our Clear Skin Face Pack is an excellent place to start and features a teen-friendly organic skincare routine perfect for those beginning their skincare journey. Emphasising simplicity and organic ingredients, OmMade's skincare routine aims to nurture and support the unique needs of teenage skin.
